Discover the Joys of Adaptive Kayaking

Unleash your adventurous spirit and embrace the thrill of adaptive kayaking. Immerse yourself in nature’s wonders as you navigate the tranquil waters. But before you embark on this exhilarating journey, let’s explore the essentials of dressing appropriately for this unique experience.

Dress to Impress, Comfortably

To ensure a seamless kayaking adventure, it’s crucial to wear the right clothing. Opt for durable and comfortable attire that safeguards you from the elements. Layering your outfit, especially on top, allows you to adapt to changing weather conditions effortlessly. Steer clear of cotton garments, as they tend to absorb water, leaving you feeling sweaty on hot days and chilly when it’s cool. Instead, choose synthetic fabrics like wicking nylon or quick-drying polyester. These materials keep you dry and comfortable throughout your voyage.

Keep Moving with Ease

When selecting your outfit, prioritize comfort and freedom of movement. Whether you embrace the flexibility of a rashguard or opt for any comfortable shirt, ensure it allows you to paddle comfortably for extended periods. For your lower body, board shorts or quick-dry pants make excellent choices, allowing you to move with agility.

Footwear Matters

Remember, your footwear must withstand water exposure as you transition in and out of your kayak. While sneakers are a suitable option if you don’t mind them getting wet, consider water shoes or sandals for added convenience. Avoid footwear without a back strap, like flip-flops, as they tend to slip off easily.

Protect Your Eyes and Essentials

For paddlers with glasses, it’s wise to secure them with a strap featuring a float in case they accidentally fall into the water. Additionally, donning a hat not only shields your eyes from the sun’s glare but also offers protection against harmful UV rays. Prepare yourself for an enthralling kayaking escapade while taking proactive steps to ensure safety and enjoyment.

Accessibility is Key

Our passion for inclusive adventures extends to carefully selected kayaking sites that prioritize accessibility. Expect accessible parking near the program base, where you’ll find a registration tent providing shelter from the elements. From parking, you may encounter a paved or hard-packed dirt path with inclines resembling ramps. Restrooms are conveniently located near the registration area, ensuring comfort throughout your experience.

Embark on Your Kayaking Journey

Upon arrival, make your way to the registration tent, where our dedicated team will guide you through the process. They will ensure you are fitted with a Personal Flotation Device (PFD), commonly known as a lifejacket. Our PFDs come in various designs, including those with head support for added security in the water.

Once equipped with your PFD, it’s time to enter your kayak. The path from the registration tent to the water may feature beach mats over sand or a paved boat ramp. Our knowledgeable staff will assist you in getting into your kayak and setting up for your paddling adventure. While waiting for everyone to prepare, you’ll have a chance to soak in the serene surroundings. Finally, you’ll embark on your journey, surrounded by program staff and fellow paddlers, moving at the pace of the slowest member. Our typical paddling sessions last approximately an hour, although we occasionally offer longer day trips for those seeking further exploration.
